The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division is committed to helping the citizens of Cleveland County stop the devastating effects of drug trafficking and drug abuse in Cleveland County. It is the mission of the Narcotics Division to identify those involved in drug activity and develop prosecutable cases against such individuals.

The Narcotics Division's responsibilities involve the investigation of illegal street drugs, illegal distribution of pharmaceutical medications, and investigations of person (s) obtaining controlled substances (drugs) by fraud and/or deceit, prostitution, gambling, and alcohol violations. These investigations are coordinated with the use of undercover officers or informants, the execution of search warrants, and working jointly with state and federal agencies.

The Narcotics Division is under the command of a Lieutenant and directly supervised by a Sergeant. The division is comprised of one Lieutenant, one Sergeant, and five investigators, of which one is assigned to the FBI's Criminal Enterprise Task Force (CETF). The CETF primary mission is to conduct investigations focused on the identification, disruption, and dismantlement of Organized Criminal Enterprises involved in transnational drug trafficking in Cleveland, Gaston, and Mecklenburg Counties.

The Narcotics Division has seized the following types of Illegal Drugs:

  • Methamphetamine
  • Cocaine (both in powder and rock form)
  • Marijuana
  • MDMA (Ecstasy)
  • Anabolic Steroids
  • Heroin
  • Numerous types of prescription medication

Since 2002, the Narcotics Division has recorded record seizures in Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Ecstasy, Marijuana, and video poker machines. There has also been a record number of Meth Labs seized during this time as well.

Some of the highlights include: Arrested over 250 drug dealers. Seized $2.2 million dollars in drugs have been seized along with 32 vehicles. Conducted operations Sleigh Ride with Kings Mountain PD and Fresh Start targeting street level drug dealers resulting in the arrests of 237 people on a total of 897 felony and misdemeanor charges. Conducted operation RX which was directed towards those dealing prescription medications. Worked with State and Federal authorities developing OCDETF cases into major drug conspiracy cases. These cases lead investigators to Texas, Canada, and Mexico. Conducted a Methamphetamine Conspiracy case which was worked with the SBI, FBI, DEA and Cherokee SC Sheriff's Office resulting in 27 people being indicted on federal drug charges. Confiscated 24 Methamphetamine Labs Investigations into illegal Video Poker Machines have lead to the confiscation of 175 machines and over $600,000 in illegal gambling money.
